Forty anglers turned out on Sunday for the first leg of Basildon and District AC's Neil Peck memorial match at Moat Lake.
Neil tragically died at the age of just 11 in 1993 and this match was raising money for charity, with £450 made which will go towards buying much-needed equipment for the Puffin children's ward at Basildon Hospital.
The winner of the match, on a hot, sunny day on which some terrific bags of fish were caught, was Terry Edwards.
He caught ten good carp from peg 38 for a winning weight of 61lb 10oz. Edwards fished the pole all day and used meat as his main bait.
A close runner-up was Sid Sach, who also caught good carp from peg 22 for 58lb 6oz. He also fished the pole, using pellet and meat. Sid Hibbert from peg 18 was third with 39lb 3oz.
The second and final leg of the match will be fished on August 31.
