A man with a collapsed spine has been robbed of his mobility after thieves stole his electric scooter.

The theft has left Victor Real, 60, of Moretons, Pitsea, confined to his home.

Police are now keen to help recover the specialist £3,700 scooter - the second to be taken from the same street in a week.

Victor had spent the last three years paying for the scooter using the limited cash he gets each week on housing benefit.

He had completed the final payment only eight weeks before the theft early Sunday morning.

He said: "This scooter is my legs as without it I can't get anywhere."

Thieves broke into Mr Real's padlocked shed between midnight and 6am on Sunday and took the racing-green coloured scooter.

The mobility scooter is a CTM H5740 model and has the index number 000900.

The other mobility scooter - a Karelmas worth £2,500 - was stolen overnight from between July 26 and 27.

Anyone with any information about the thefts should call PC Beale on 01268 532212.
