Salary capping will save British football and give Colchester United the chance to push towards the First Division.
That was the message from Colchester United's chief executive Marie Partner today.
Partner was reacting to news that the Football League has outlined plans to extend its salary-cap scheme - which starts in the Third Division this season - to the First and Second Division inside two years.
"Clubs are now operating with smaller squads, there are more players available and that will see the gap close between the Second and First Division," said Partner.
"A gap which until this was suggested was looking like being unassailable," she added.
The capping rules will mean that clubs will have to limit player wages to 60 per cent of their turnover - and total salary costs to 75 per cent of their revenue.
