Striker Wayne Andrews exhibited his goalscoring ability by giving Colchester United Reserves a 1-0 lead against Arsenal - but two late goals saw the Gunners clinch a 3-2 victory.
The behind-closed-doors friendly, played at the Premiership club's London Colney training complex, was split into three 30-minute periods to allow for water breaks on a very hot day.
On the score sheet - Wayne Andrews
Colchester took the lead through Andrews, who picked up a slight injury but should be fit by the time he has served his three-match suspension at the start of the season.
And the former Oldham striker formed a useful partnership with Adrian Coote, who provided the second U's goal from the penalty spot in the second period.
The visitors were 2-1 up going into the final third.
But a particularly young back four, consisting of 15-year-old Liam Bailey, Greg Halford, John White and Gary Richards, tired late on to concede two goals.
