Southend Carnival Queen Laura Lowen will be in a wheelchair for her big week after dislocating her knee.
Laura, 18, of Leigh, was taken to hospital after her leg gave way as she worked in Boots in Southend.
However, she vowed to continue in her role as figurehead for the carnival, which gets under way on Friday.

She said: "I rang the association and they said they would adapt. This is the first time I have been a carnival queen and I am not going to let this ruin it. I am determined to do it and although it may be a bit more difficult I am really looking forward to it."
Carnival spokesman Chris Charles said: "Laura in determined to carry on but some events she will attend in a wheelchair or on crutches."
