Now locals are targetting the Anglian Water sewage treatment works, which backs on to Thorney Bay park.
Castle Point MP Bob Spink said: "We are sick of having to suffer this air quality problem.
"It reduces the quality of life for residents and it is affecting several thousand people."
Councillors have asked if it was possible to take any remedial action to reduce the odour coming from the works.
Paul Kitchen, of Anglian Water, said the company is looking into the claims.
