Essex Police are disappointed with the amount of drivers still failing to observe basic road safety measures.
Officers expressed their disappointment following Operation Tourist, a nationwide operation carried out by police forces across England and Wales at the end of July.
Throughout the week-long operation, road policing officers stopped 165 passenger vehicles in Essex, including Chelmsford, and found that only 105 were found to be in order.
Road policing Insp Steve Brewer said: "We are very much disappointed by these figures which show only two thirds of drivers and vehicles stopped were adhering to road safety laws."
During the operation drivers were also stopped for tachograph offences, which shows the number of driving hours compared to the number of rest hours.
"It is still quite apparent that companies and their drivers are just simply not heeding our various road safety messages," added Insp Brewer.
