A large group of travellers has moved on to land on the edge of Colchester.
An estimated 60 caravans were towed on to Stane Park in Tollgate, Stanway, earlier this week after the gate was taken off its hinges.
John Warren, who owns the site, said it was the fourth time this year travellers had moved onto his land, costing hundreds in clear-up costs each time they move on.
He said that he had put state-of-the-art locks on the gate to try to keep people out, but somebody had smashed the hinges.
A Colchester Council spokeswoman said Mr Warren had not contacted the council to ask for help since the travellers moved onto the site.
She added that, according to the law, it was down to the landowner to apply for an injunction to have people on his or her land moved on.
