A 46-year-old man was taken to hospital early today after he was attacked in Clacton town centre.

The man, who is from Clacton but has not been named, received serious head injuries.

He was taken to Colchester General Hospital where he was in a stable condition.

Police sealed off Edith Road at both ends after the incident at about 3.30am today.

It is believed the man sustained a fractured skull in the attack.

Three men were arrested shortly after the incident and were today being held at Clacton police station. No-one has been charged.
