Former England captain Nasser Hussain scored a magnificent unbeaten 161 as Essex thrashed the current National League champions by 145 runs at Chelmsford.
Hussain's innings was his best ever one-day score and contained 21 fours. He scored five of them in one over and reached his 50 with a six.
Andy Flower struck 57 but the Zimbabwean was bowled by spinner Dean Cosker, who took all the other Essex wickets to end with personal best figures of five for 54.
The visitors made a terrible start to their reply. Tony Palladino struck twice in his opening over to dismiss Robert Croft and Mike Powell.
Matthew Maynard scored an excellent 50 that included three sixes but he was trapped lbw by a delivery from Graham Napier and the Glamorgan innings never recovered.
