Could Colchester become the Rome of eastern England? In terms of eating out on the streets and watching the world go by, it may well follow in the footsteps of the great European city.
The town is to look at bidding for a slice of new funding set aside to encourage more outside dining and Italian-style living in the east of England.
Colchester Council is considering applying for Cittaslow Status, an accolade set to be awarded by the Countryside Agency.
The agency has chosen the eastern region as the pilot area for Cittaslow Status in the UK. The scheme has been successful elsewhere in Europe.
