Motorists can expect roadworks on the A12 for the rest of the year.

But engineers say lessons learned from the traffic chaos during a similar resurfacing scheme at Hatfield Peverel 18 months ago will ensure that delays this time are "minimal."

The Highways Agency has announced that preliminary work will start this week on a £10.3 million scheme to resurface and upgrade the Witham bypass.

Night time preparation work will start on Friday to set up site offices, install CCTV and speed cameras, construct temporary safety barriers and prepare the central reservation for traffic crossing contraflows. This will require some overnight lane closures.
