Teenager John Chapman resented another youth bumping into his brother at a disco and glassed him.
Chapman, 19, then punched victim Ben Davis in the face, causing a black eye and swelling.
When he was arrested and taken to a police station Chapman became abusive and kicked out, injuring a police sergeant.
He pleaded guilty at Basildon Crown Court to causing actual bodily harm to Mr Davis and assaulting the sergeant.
Mr Davis said he feared he would be blinded following the attack at Talk nightclub, Southend.
Chapman, who could not recall the incidents because he was drunk, apologised for his behaviour, saying he was disgusted with himself. The judge, Mr Recorder Jeffrey Yearwood, told Chapman: "I accept you acted out of character and I'm prepared to give you a final chance."
Chapman, of Cranley Road, Westcliff, was given 100 hours' community service, a two-year rehabilitation order and must pay Mr Davis £300 compensation.
