Police have urged owners of cars with alloy wheels to be extra vigilant after a spate of thefts left Benfleet drivers grounded.
All four wheels on a metallic red Ford KA, valued at £1,200, were snatched in Martingale, Benfleet, and the car was abandoned without even being put on bricks.
On the same night the two near-side alloy wheels on another Ford KA were stolen from St Mary's Road, Benfleet.
Crime reduction officer at Rayleigh police, Jason Sculthorpe, said: "You can get a lockable device for alloy wheels which, if they are used correctly, mean it will take thieves longer to make off with your wheels. They will also work as a deterrent in many cases."
Anyone with information on the two weekend thefts should call Benfleet police on 01268 756221.
