Workers were evacuated after a bomb was discovered outside their factory.

Bomb disposal experts were called to the building in Robert Way, in Wickford, after the device was found.

Police believe it was a real bomb, which could have maimed or killed if it had gone off.

The package, believed to have been handled by staff at Brown and Carroll joiners, was examined by experts from the explosive ordnance disposal unit yesterday afternoon. It was sent off for forensic examination.

Police want to hear from anyone on the premises between 6.30pm on Saturday and 2.30pm yesterday. Call 01268 532212.
