Two men forced a cyclist to stop and stole her shopping bag from the basket on the front of the bike.
The incident happened as the woman was cycling along St Osyth Road, Clacton, just after 10.30am yesterday.
Acting Insp Alan Beckett, of Clacton police, said the victim, who was not injured, was in the Branston Road junction area when the men struck.
The men used a red car which could have been a hatchback. They are said to be in their early 20s and both had short cropped hair.
