A new boat registration scheme is set to be introduced this summer in a bid to improve safety in the water off part of the Tendring coast.
Residents in St Osyth and Point Clear have backed the idea, which could be brought in off Stone Point, when it was discussed at a meeting.
They were told the scheme could be administered by the Orchards Holiday Park and would cost about £10 a year.
A boost to the scheme would see boats and water bikes registered, and it would also be possible to make sure they were also insured and therefore there was some protection in the event of an accident.
Michael Talbot, chairman of St Osyth Parish Council, said the meeting was a big success and aroused a great deal of interest.
