A man will be braving the cold as well as the disbelief of his work colleagues as he takes the short route to raising cash for a good cause.
Len Heathfield, 42, of Spurgeon Street, Colchester, has agreed to wear shorts to work every day for the next year to raise money for the NSPCC.

Starting from today, he will be locking up his long trousers and bearing his knees to the world come rain, shine, sleet or snow.
He came up with the idea of collecting cash for charity after his bosses at Securicor Omega Express, on the Whitehall industrial estate, gave permission to employees to wear shorts.
Until recently, the company had insisted people should cover their legs, but when the rules were changed, Mr Heathfield jumped at the chance to help the NSPCC.
He came up with the idea of backing the charity after his six-year-old son saw an advert for it on television and suggested to his dad that he should help it.
