Colchester United's longest-serving player Karl Duguid was today looking ahead to a bright new era.
A U's player for the past ten seasons, Duguid has been boosted by the exciting news that Colchester is set to get its new community stadium at last.
Speculation surrounding a new stadium has been rife for the past half-century, but plans for a new development at Cuckoo Farm moved a vital step nearer last night when the £multi-million project was given the go ahead by Colchester Borough Council.
And as he prepared for tomorrow's big pre-season derby at Essex rivals Southend United, Duguid told the Evening Gazette: "I can't believe it's happening at last.
"I'll be entering my tenth year with the club after Christmas," said the 25-year-old utility player. "And they've been talking about a new stadium ever since I arrived here.
"It's been a long while coming, but now it looks like it will become a reality at last and I've been told we could actually be playing in it in two-and-a-half years time."
