Clowns, magicians and puppets are set to entertain shoppers over the summer holidays, with Basildon's Eastgate Centre starting its summer festival today.
For the next month the centre will play host to dozens of entertainers and performers. Eastgate promotions manager Mike Horton said: "Our 2003 summer festival promises to entertain more visitors than ever before.
"Each act has been carefully selected to provide variety and the best possible show. We can guarantee a lot of smiles on the faces of kids and parents alike." Performances will run from Thursday to Sunday until August 30.
Many of the acts have been at the centre before, including balloon modeller Matthew Garrett, who will appear four times over the summer. Each time he will perform a different act, including one on August 29 with a Harry Potter theme.
Other returners include Tim Bat, one of Covent Garden's original street entertainers, and ventriloquist Chris Bylett, who will be taking along his feathered accomplice, Desmond.
