A man has been cleared by a jury of causing brain injuries to another man after a fight on Mersea Island.
Trevor Nicoll got involved in a fight with Gary Bramhill and it ended with Mr Bramhill in hospital with serious head injuries.
Mr Bramhill remembers nothing of the incident, on September 18, the day before the funeral of his brother.
Mr Nicoll, 56, denied inflicting grievous bodily harm to Mr Bramhill and was cleared after a trial. It took the jury 45 minutes to return a unanimous verdict.
Trial Judge Charles Gratwicke formally discharged Mr Nicoll, of Queen Anne Road, West Mersea, following the verdict.
The Chelmsford Crown Court trial heard how the two men got involved in a row after leaving a West Mersea pub, and got out of a car taking them home and squared up to each other like boxers.
Mr Bramhill, his brother Danny and Mr Nicoll had earlier been drinking in the White Horse pub
