Jim Magilton was today named as the new captain of Ipswich Town.
The midfielder was one of the favourites to land the coveted job following Matt Holland's transfer to Charlton.
Town boss Joe Royle revealed yesterday that he had a player in mind but admitted there were 'several candidates' for the role.
Today, though, the news was made official and Magilton said: "I'm delighted to take on the responsibility.
"It's a real privilege to play for such a great club and to be asked to lead the team is a big honour.
"Now I can't wait for the season to start and take on the challenge of getting back in the Premiership."
