Commuters faced long delays today after a four-car pile up on the A12 brought traffic to a standstill.
The accident happened on the Colchester-bound carriageway of the A12, on the Witham bypass, shortly after 6.30am.
A car left the road and hit the steel cable central reservation before another car was involved in a collision with it. Two more cars were then involved in the accident.
A 25-metre stretch of steel cable central reservation barrier was damaged.
Tailbacks soon stretched back to Hatfield Peverel.
Although police teams were quickly at the scene, the accident was still causing delays after 9am
