Council tenants in Basildon are getting a better deal than ever before, a survey revealed today.
The results of a poll carried out in January 2003 suggest 85.5 per cent of residents in council accommodation are satisfied with the service they receive.
Councillors discussed the results of the Housing Services Performance Information Report at a meeting of the council's housing policy development panel.
Portfolio holder for housing, councillor Tony Ball, said: "This is excellent news for the tenants of Basildon and an endorsement of the hard work done by officers and councillors who are committed to improving services."
A huge investment programme has enabled Basildon Council to improve its stock to a standard above the national average. Double glazing, central heating and replacement kitchens and bathrooms have been installed in many homes.
Eighty-three per cent of houses now meet the Government's decent homes targets, and it is the council's intention to raise this figure to 86 per cent next year.
