Maldon all-rounder Glen Batticciotto admitted he was shocked when he found out he was playing in the same side as England Test captain Nasser Hussain for Essex Seconds at Colchester's Castle Park.
"It was quite a surprise to see him there when I turned up. It felt a bit strange," said the Australian, who played for the county's second string last Wednesday.
"But it was a great experience to play on the same side as him."
Hussain was not the only England international present.
Essex's opponents were Surrey's second XI and Alex Tudor was bowling for the side after a spell out with injury.
However, sadly for Batticciotto, he wasn't able to test his mettle against one of the country's top fast bowlers.
"It was a shame I didn't get to face Tudor. It would have been good to test myself against him."
Batticciotto was the star with the bat for Essex, far exceeding his big name counterparts, making 63 in comparison to Hussain's 24.
It wasn't Batticciotto's best for the county.
He had previously managed to make over 100 earlier in the season and it stands as his best batting effort so far this year.
