Heart patients are being saved a long journey with the opening of a new service at a mid Essex hospital
A new cardiac angiography suite will be officially opened today at Chelmsford's Broomfield Hospital.
It will cater for patients of the Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust, which covers Braintree, Witham, Halstead, Maldon and Chelmsford, and the Essex Rivers NHS Trust, which covers Colchester and Clacton.
Cardiac angiography is a diagnostic procedure which looks at the blood vessels supplying the heart and determines how efficiently it is pumping blood.
Until now heart patients needing an angiogram have had to travel to St Bartholomew's Hospital or the London Chest Hospital.
