A driver died after he was thrown out of the passenger side window of his car which overturned near Clacton town centre.
The 29-year-old, who has not been named by police, went through the window of the red Vauxhall Nova, which then landed on him.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
There was no other vehicle involved in the accident, which happened just after 11.30pm on Friday, in Coppins Road.
Insp Andy Hooke, of Clacton police, said the Nova was heading towards Pathfields Road and tried to negotiate a left-hand bend just before the junction with Wargrave Road.
However, the car went out of control and overturned.
"The driver was thrown out of the window and the car landed on top of him," he said.
"He was certified dead at the scene of the accident by a doctor."
