He said the Red Caps were familiar faces and taxi drivers who work late on Friday and Saturday evenings often saw them about the town.
He added soldiers are an integral part of the community and taxi drivers had, like other townspeople, wanted to see them all home safely.
Taxi driver Brian Bubear has delivered flowers to Colchester Garrison on behalf of the association.
Mr Andrews said: "We take soldiers about Colchester, take them to the station when they go on leave and we drive their wives."
He said taxi drivers have delivered Army families to the station when they went home to their families while soldiers were in Iraq.
He added: "They are very good customers, we are very upset about what has happened and we would like to express our condolences."
