Mid Essex looks set to win its bid to house a vital cancer centre for patients from the region.
A unanimous vote by the Mid Anglia Cancer Network (MACN) has recommended a £500,000 bid made by Chelmsford's Broomfield Hospital to become the site for the centre gets the go-ahead.
The recommendation will be subject to public consultation.
The centre would serve patients from Colchester and Ipswich as well as Braintree, Witham, Chelmsford and Maldon, who need life-saving bone, throat and stomach cancer operations.
Broomfield's bid beat stiff competition from Essex Rivers NHS Trust for the centre to be housed in Colchester, and Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust for it to be housed in the Suffolk town.
Following a visit by members of an external review team set up by the MACN, Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust's Broomfield Hospital received their total backing.
