Pupils at Buttsbury Junior School, in Norsey View Drive, Billericay, got their hands dirty when artist John Doubleday dropped in.
Enthusiastic young students were shown how to mould blobs of clay into animals as part of their art class.
Dragonflies and hedgehogs were among the creatures favoured by the children.
