After nearly 18 years as a member of the St John Ambulance Brigade, a Lawford man is to receive one of the charity's highest honours.
Basil Jowers, 74, of Linden Close, has been admitted as a Serving Brother in the Order of St John.
The investiture goes ahead at The Priory Church in St John's Square, London, on July 18 and Mr Jowers will be accompanied to the ceremony by his daughter, Angela Smith.
Mr Jowers, who worked at Ardleigh Reservoir before his retirement, is still an active member of the Dedham branch, assisting in the training of other members and helping with the care of the elderly in the village.
Awarded the long service medal in 1999, Mr Jowers said he believed he had come across more road accidents than many other members.
"Even when I was on holiday in Scotland, I gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a woman who had collapsed," said Mr Jowers.
