The plight of a Colchester school set to be closed will be raised in the House of Commons.
The Evening Gazette revealed plans to close St Anne's Primary School, which has been in special measures for more than two years.
The school, in Barnardiston Road, Colchester, has also been without a permanent headteacher since Will Hawkesworth resigned in January 2002.
Two options are now open for the school: closure, or being closed and reopened with a new name, governing body and teaching staff under the Government's Fresh Start scheme.
Colchester MP Bob Russell, as soon as he read the Evening Gazette's story, rushed to lodge a 'named day question' with Education Secretary Charles Clarke.
Mr Russell said: "I've asked what advice or instruction has been given by his department to the local education authority in respect of a possible Fresh Start scheme in Colchester.
"I've asked whether he will make a statement about the situation at St Anne's Primary."
An answer to Mr Russell's question will not be made until Monday.
If given Fresh Start status, the school would get an extra £125,000 a year for three years. But, because of the school's falling pupil numbers, the Fresh Start option might be turned down by the Government.
If that does not succeed, the final option will be to close the school down entirely.
