A man whose dead body was found beside a farm pond was today named as Sean Finnigan.
The 44-year-old, who comes from the Harwich area, was discovered by farmer James Fairley junior on his land in Wolves Hall Lane, Tendring.
Detectives leading the inquiry are still waiting for the results of tests to reveal how Mr Finnigan, who was also known as Sean Cook, died.
An initial post-mortem examination failed to determine the cause of death which is still being treated as "unexplained".
Det Insp Mick Ornellas said Mr Finnigan lived in the Harwich area but had lived in many other places around the country during his life.
It is believed that he has an ex-wife or partner, and possibly two children, who live in Cornwall.
The last known sighting of Mr Finnigan was on Saturday, June 14. Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw him after that date and in the four days leading up to when he was found.
The discovery of Mr Finnigan's body was made last Wednesday.
An Essex Police spokesman said that officers wanted to reassure residents in Tendring that unexplained deaths are rare.
