Law-breakers in Essex are among the best in the country at paying their fines, according to figures released today.
The county ranks eighth out of 42 areas in the percentage of fines collected between April 2002 and March 2003. Almost three-quarters of the fines issued in Essex were paid.
Nationally, the most prompt payments were made in Warwickshire, where 87 per cent of fines were paid.
Greater London was lax in comparison to Essex, with only 40 per cent of fines being paid, ranking it 41st on the list.
