Train operator c2c has apologised to customers following another morning of commuter hell - caused by cable problems and a cow.

Travellers endured severe delays during the rush hour yesterday following two overhead wiring faults.

The chaos was made even worse after a cow wandered onto the line between Benfleet and Leigh.

A spokesman for c2c said: "The service was awful. It was very frustrating for our customers and we apologise but this was something that was outside our control." He said services were returned to normal later in the morning.
