Police are hunting a motorist who fled the scene of an accident in which three people, including a baby, were injured.
The accident happened at the crossroads of Newpasture Lane and Porter's Hall Road, Stebbing Green, near Braintree, at about 4.30pm on Saturday, when a maroon Ford Escort was in collision with a red Ford Fiesta.
A man in his 20s and a pregnant teenager in the Fiesta were taken to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, with serious injuries.
A young baby was also taken to hospital for treatment in the Essex Air Ambulance, but is believed to be less seriously injured.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "We are eager to trace the driver of the Fiesta, who is believed to have left the scene shortly after the collision."
Station officer Norman Hardman of Dunmow fire brigade said the baby was thrown through a car window by the force of the collision and landed in a waterlogged ditch.
The occupants of the Ford Escort were not injured in the accident.
