Kevin Rapley today confirmed to the Evening Gazette that he is in talks with Non-League heavyweights Chester City.
The Colchester United striker - released at the end of last season - has had two conversations with Deva Stadium boss Mark Wright.
On the move? - Kevin Rapley
And he is weighing up his options before deciding whether he would be interested in joining last season's Conference play-off semi-finalists.
Rapley was dogged by injury last season and missed the final few months - denying him the chance to impress new manager Phil Parkinson.
But he has already been approached by Scarborough, Barnet and Southend managed by former U's boss Steve Wignall.
Chester, however, are the favourites to land his signature and Rapley told the Evening Gazette: "I haven't actually been up there yet but I've been impressed with Mark Wright.
"I wouldn't be prepared to drop out of the League unless I was confident I was joining a club capable of getting out of the Conference.
"Chester certainly fit that bill."
