Staff and passenger welfare at Stansted is being taken to a new level with the creation of a dedicated paramedic base at the airport.
After a successful ten-month trial, Stansted has teamed up with the Essex Ambulance Service to fund rapid response health cover seven days a week, from 8am until midnight.
Until now the airport has always provided first aid cover through staff volunteers and the airport fire service.
Dave Powell, head of airside safety and operations for BAA Stansted, said the switch to permanent paramedic cover would ensure an even better level of welfare for passengers and staff, providing the safest possible environment.
"We are very pleased that after a successful trial we now have a dedicated paramedic for Stansted," he commented.
Mr Powell added the paramedic service would enhance the airport's commitment to safety and security, as well as reducing the number of calls made to the local ambulance service.
