The consumer-owned Co-operative Group acquired the Alldays chain of 600 branches last October and the £170,000 refit was part of a three year multi million pound conversion programme.
It has been transformed into the Co-op's Welcome convenience format with modern decor and new fittings. A cash machine will be introduced shortly.
Manager Rick Dell said: "I am delighted the new store will better meet the needs of the local community and it will be a real asset."
Children from nearby Edwards Hall Infants School performed the ribbon cutting ceremony and were presented with a £250 cheque for school funds.
