New security measures are to be introduced at six shops in Clacton - thanks to a windfall of £33,000.
The money has been handed over by the Home Office in the fight to crack crime in deprived areas.
The cash takes the total for Clacton to over £100,000 under the scheme in the past three years.
Lisa Andrews, community safety manager at Tendring Council, said it would be a real boost for small community retailers in the town.
"We will be using the funding to put in closed circuit television cameras, tapes and monitoring, and other features such as screens and grills," she said.
"It will be aimed at those who have suffered from criminal damage, shoplifting, and disorder. Three have also been subjected to racial incidents."
