Purfleet have been given permission to change their name to Thurrock from the forthcoming season.
Manager Colin McBride admitted that, on a personal note, he was sad to see the name Purfleet die.
But he added: "Although we've risen to the Ryman Premier this is relatively a new club founded only in 1985 and it's been difficult to form a fan base with so many other well-established outfits so close.
"By changing our name to Thurrock it's hoped that we'll be able to widen our area of support."
