Shoppers were stopped in their tracks by street diversions of a different kind in Chelmsford.
The Coneheads had landed in the town to sample life on planet Earth but it was all part of street arts event Street Diversions, which took to the main shopping thoroughfare to amuse, bemuse and sometimes confuse shoppers.
Pavements and shop windows became the place to perform as the group of street entertainers invaded the High Street.
Other acts included the return of the King himself, Elvis, and a group of very English lost tourists who were prepared to ask anyone for directions, as well as a trapeze show in tribute to the children's television programme Magic Roundabout.
Events were also laid on in South Woodham Ferrers. The event was organised by Chelmsford Council's special events team with help from Chelmsford Town Centre Management and retailers.
