Hundreds of items large and small were auctioned off for the RSPCA - and MP David Amess had control of the hammer.
The Southend West Tory acted as auctioneer for the fundraising sale because he is president of the Essex South and Southend RSPCA branch.
The auction at St Clement's Church Hall in Rectory Grove, Leigh, included footballs signed by the Arsenal and Southend teams, a tennis racquet worth £120 and tickets to the London Dungeon and the Southend Sealife Adventure.
A spokesman said: "All RSPCA branches are self funding, so we have to raise all the money we need to pay for the veterinary bills and bed and board of the animals in our care until they are ready to be re-housed."
