A dock worker has died after falling 115ft from a crane
Dennis Burman, 51, of Brantham, died following the accident at the Port of Felixstowe.
Mr Burman, who was married with two children, had only been working at the port a few weeks and was undergoing training at the time of the accident, which was at the Trinity Terminal.
Paul Davey, the port's corporate affairs manager, said: "He was a trainee working up a crane at the time of the accident.
"We called the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) immediately and we have got our own examination.
"We are co-operating fully with the HSE."
Mr Davey said he could not comment further on the possible cause of the death but added: "The accident came as a great shock to everyone who works at the port.
"The thoughts of everyone here are with his wife and family."
Mr Davey said a thorough investigation would be held to determine the circumstances leading to the accident.
A spokesman for the HSE confirmed an investigation into the accident had been launched.
The accident happened at 11.40am on Tuesday.
