Detectives are seeking a "Good Samaritan" who broke up a racist knife attack and possibly saved the victim's life.
They believe the man, who stepped in when a 21-year-old Asian had his throat slashed by racists in Pier Hill, Southend, could help them catch the men responsible.
The unknown helper can speak to police in confidence on 01702 423169 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
