A protest petition is being organised after the main entrance to a popular area of open space was shut off
Tendring Council shut off the access point to the Hangings from the Vineway in Dovercourt.
The council took over the ownership of the land recently and realised there was a problem with bikers, who created noise disturbance on the land.
But the action has created controversy and now a petition of signatures is being gathered calling for the access to be reopened.
It has been organised by town councillor and former Harwich mayor Dave McLeod.
"For some 38 years, the access to the Hangings via the Vineway has been an established pathway used by many people for walks," he said.
Anyone who wishes to sign the petition should contact Mr McLeod on 01255 552528
