A policeman who retired after 30 years was sworn back into Essex Police two days later.

Barry Kaufmann-Wright, 53, clocked up 13 years as Braintree division wildlife officer and took on countywide responsibility a year ago.

He officially retired on Saturday but just three days later went to Chelmsford Crown Court to become a policeman again under a Home Office scheme to retain experienced officers. He is now the force's wildlife officer on a part-time basis.

Up to the weekend, the policeman had combined his wildlife responsibility with his duties as a community officer, covering the Rodings from Hatfield Heath station.
