News that a permanent skate park is to be built in Brentwood with £45,000 in Home Office funding has been welcomed.
The disused tennis courts at King Georges Playing Fields have been chosen as the site for the park and discussions with young people who are likely to use it will be taking place to ensure it meets their requirements.
The Lib Dem leader of Brentwood Council, Cllr Vicky Cook, welcomed the announcement and said it was great news for young people in the town.
Cllr Cook said: "A temporary park at the Brentwood Centre has been very popular and there has been a desire to see a permanent facility built so hopefully the young people in Brentwood will be pleased."
Brentwood Council Chief Executive, Bob McLintock, said he hoped the scheme would prove a success as the temporary facility had proved so popular.
He said the skate boarding craze was no longer seen as a passing phase for youngsters and there was a huge demand for a park of some kind which he expected to be used well into the future.
