Once the bad weather lifted, 285 birds birds from Pride of Laindon Pigeon Club were released into a cloudless sky.
The first bird home belonged to Phil Wood, and achieved 1337 yards per minute.
Jimmy Deighton had second and third places with 1336 and 1331 ypm, while Jack Martin was fourth.
Laindon RPC also flew from Newark, with Albert Barker and Son taking the honours with a clean sweep of the top three places.
