Leigh skipper Simon Burch admitted his side suffered a "bad day at the office" as they slumped to defeat at the hands of a promotion-seeking Brentwood side.
Leigh had to settle for one point as the home side stayed within 12 of leaders Wickford.
Said Burch: "Two of our first five wickets to fall were run-outs and I think that sums up the way we contributed to our own downfall.
"They weren't close run-outs either. We had no excuses -- there was nothing wrong with the pitch or conditions in any way.
"It was just one of those days when we did little right and you just have to store it away and look forward to next week. There's no point having long inquests."
Brentwood started badly with Ben Green taking three early wickets, but eventually they cruised past their 80 target.
